What to do when you invite yourself...

I made a big faux pas. My (ex)SIL said she was taking the kids to the airshow but did not invite me...she usually does but has not been speaking to me nor inviting me anywhere...anyhow, I got excited cuz it's time out of the house and these 4 walls and time with my nephew and niece to watch their faces light up in awe at the airplanes. I invited myself. I asked, "Sounds fun, can I go?" she said yes but then I got thinking about how rude it was of me to ask if I was not invited in the first place. She is bringing along a co-worker/friend, which I didn't know at the time, so should I just bow out gracefully or go since I opened my big mouth? I don't want to intrude and I am just a nanny/housekeeper for them and since my brother is no longer married to her she is no longer a 'relative-by-marriage' or anything....I guess that would include the kids as well (my grandmother told me that was rude to ask when not invited).

What would you do?

Thanks!
