Personally, I didn't hear about SA/SP from anywhere.

I was frightened of social situations, I knew that I wasn't just shy, that even other shy people were not as frightened of social situations as I was and their lives were not as limited as mine was because of my fear :(. I knew that irrational fears like arachnophobia, agoraphobia and claustrophobia existed and I thought that there might be a phobia of people/socialising so I looked up sociophobia on the internet, found it was also called Social Anxiety and recognised the symptoms in myself. That was before I went to my GP doctor and psychiatrist :).

similar to me. i have always felt anxious, and then one day it came to me that i might have a known problem, so i looked it up

I always felt social anxiety since public school, but when I saw a commercial about social anxiety disorder medication thats when I first heard of it being a disorder. Then I went to my doctor and he gave me a question sheet where if you scored 25 or higher you had social anxiety disorder, and I scored 155.

Unlike my IQ test where I did score 25.
