Recently I started to go to the gym and I love it. Sometime's I go with friends from the autism foundation or go on my own. I've been trying real hard to get into shape, so I changed my diet and I've become active. Anyone else here go to the gym? What do you love about it?

I'm strongly considering going to the gym, I don't have the space or the willingness to get the proper equipment for home workouts. It would be mostly about weight-lifting for me, but who knows, maybe there's some other kinds of workouts that may appeal, as well.

I do worry about the typical SA things.. will I look out of place? I'm pretty darn thin.. and of course, very shy and sometimes awkward. But most people tell me I'll have no problems.

Let me know how it goes for you, mate.

I thought about it but never did it. I would if I needed to lose weight though, probably. I did go to the climbing gym, intensively, for about 2 years, and I got in real good shape and had a lot of fun, but that's ALL I was doing with my life. Then I stopped going because it was pretty expensive and time consuming and I wanted to do other things. I think I might start again this summer though, but maybe I'll try not to be so extreme.

Good for you if you commit to it, don't get discouraged or self-conscious, as someone said in the other thread about the same subject, no one will ever think badly of you because you're going to the gym, no matter what you look like.

I go there about 3 times a week, 1 hour each time. I go at an hour where there aren't many people there (around 4pm).
I do it mostly to get some exercise done instead of sitting on my *** all day long. I'm kinda skinny but I'm not trying to gain weight or much muscle there, I'm just trying to stay physically active.

I find it relaxing. It takes my mind off the things that worry me. I used to listen to music there but I realised it didn't help me relax, focus and I was more likely to skip going to the gym because of that. While resting between sets, I enjoy looking outside (no walls on the side of the gym I usually am, just windows), specially on a sunny day. The fact that it takes less than 5 minutes on foot to get there and that I don't have to worry about whether it is raining or not (since I'm indoors) helps me not finding excuses to stay at home. And since my mum is paying for it, I don't want to waste her money either.

Well today I gone and did leg day, for some reason I love the feeling you get after you work out. Sure it's sore but to me that tells myself that I worked hard.

I went to a gym last about 9 years ago. They made a training plan for me, it gathered dust in a folder. The exercises they had me doing aggravated my knee, I never returned.

I saw a physio and rebuilt my knees so I could run again, I did that at home, it took three years. Running is my exercise now. Sometimes do simple push ups and sit ups for my core, no gym or equipment required.

I started exercising regularly at a gym 4 years ago and still do to maintain my weight (I was originally 10 lbs overweight), and at first I was very self conscious about using the machines but that faded away within a month. This was most likely due to getting in better shape which brought more confidence, and realizing that everyone else is focused on themselves. I care so little now about other people in the gym that I leave a truckload of leave-in conditioner in my hair to deep condition it while I run.

Nope. I work out at home. My university has a nice gym and fitness programs but I haven't gotten around to going yet. Not sure if I ever will.

I don't. I have kinda have my own personal home gym. Weights, bars, benches, dumbbells, exercise bike, pullup bar. So I just workout at home.

I like that I've become more confident, relaxed, and of course stronger in the past six months since I started getting into shape. I think that all able bodied people would benefit from physical training, to be alive and not know what your body is capable of seems like a pointless waste of potential to me.

I have never ever been to a gym. I work out in my room doing various types of sit-ups, push ups, squats, etc. I have some dumbbells that I use and I put them in a back pack while i do push ups and stuff. I go running at night when no one is outside. I hate it when people can see me workout. I'm very fit. But I still hate people being able to see me.

Also I use to have a friend who has been in prison and is very fit and he taught me a whole lot of workouts I can do just in my room and not need any equipment

I don't like weightlifting, so the only appeal of a gym would be to be able to run when I'd have a hard time doing so outside (in the winter or late at night). I do get in running shape again I might consider it to maintain my fitness level over the winter, but other than that I don't see a point. I prefer running freely (off a treadmill) and don't need a machine to do push ups or sit ups which would be the only strength building exercise I would consider.

I've been going ever since i was in 10th grade and I loved it! Lately I've been a bit busy and haven't been working out as much as a use to. It took a while to get in shape but the results are worth it.
