Why can't I grow a beard?

Whenever I go a while without shaving people start comenting and tell me to shave. Why?
Now you really have to shave. I don't want to. My brother looks cool with beard. Since people says that I wonder if I can't grow a beard. That it looks really terible on me. What do you think? Is it normal that people say that?
Alot of people have beard or facial hair, so why can't I? Don't get it.

Edit.: Sorry, I misunderstood your post.

The same happens to me. As soon as I start growing a beard people tell me the same thing. Mostly if it's just the moustache and goatee. It looks kinda patchy in the begginning but, after a week it gets thicker and people stop commenting on it.
I thought of using things like minoxidil 5%, but I'm not sure it would mess with hormones.

How long were you without shaving when they said that? Facial hair doesn't look very good in the first month (in general). It has to be dense enough. If that's not the problem, try styling your beard. Maybe make it slightly shorter in one area. For example, I trim my facial hair about once or twice a week, and cut it a few millimetres shorter on the chin because otherwise my face looks long and pointy. I also trim my moustache a bit shorter than the hair on the chin.

Because you're a girl?

ha ha, how am i to know. I'm a dude, and my facial hair is very spotty. Can't grow a full one like most others can. It's not for everyone. Beards are "in" now, but that'll change. Some women/guys absolutely hate the look/feel of it on their mate.

Are you a teenager? When I was a teenager and I went without shaving for a while people kept telling me to shave. Now I'm not a teenager nobody gives a shit. I have a beard right now because I stopped shaving a couple weeks ago out of laziness. The only people that say anything about it is my family but it's just lighthearted teasing. The only person that genuinely dislikes my facial hair is my gf because it's scratchy. But I haven't seen her in a long time

I think SOME girls don't like guys with beards and/or long hair because its a sign that they're unruly and can't be tamed...im currently in the process of growing my hair back out because I simply don't give a ****...kind of like Jeremiah Johnson.

Same thing happened to me, people made a big deal about it in junior high, now people dont care. Oddly though, now I have one and I kinda want to shave it off, getting a little tired of it and I only groom it when I get a hair cut (which isnt often)

No, I'm not a teenager. I tried growing a beard many times before, with the same comment. I don't have a girlfriend. I have only getting this comments from guys.
It's around 2 weeks now, so I guess I try to wait for month to see if it get's better,

In my experience it just takes people a while to get used to it. I wouldn't bother what other people say of it, and just judge for yourself what looks good on you. Just let it grow for a while and then trim it to your liking.

Some people are kind of stuck up about facial hair, especially at work. At an old job of mine I was even forbidden to grow a beard and had to be clean shaven. Had a comment from a nagging manager too that it looks unkempt. But other then that people have been very positive to my beard. I think it just looks better on me than clean shaven.

You might have to wait a little longer, I had to wait a month and a half myself. Started getting a lot of comments, but none saying if it looked good or not. Two people said I looked like a sailor though.

Then you need to see if it is fairly consistent or if you have many spots here and there without facial hair. If that's the case, it won't look good. Otherwise, it's just about finding the right style and size for your beard.

Lol.When I saw the subject I thought you were asking about how you could grow a beard. It is odd how people feel comfortable commenting on the appearance of others, even if they dont know them. Its something I dont do,since it opens the door to personal comments about my apperance plus hurt feelings from others.

I think when it comes to family, friends commenting, there is some issues of them feeling that your appearance, clothing reflects upon them since they maybe seen in public with you.Maybe they feel like they are doing you a favour and trying to help. Some times we dont always know when a beard ,a top etc, really does not suit us.Sometimes others just have different tastes and views about facial hair, clothing.Thats fair enough but it does not mean that you should change to suit them.

Your post was an interesting one that is more complex than it first seemed once I started thinking about it.Thanks for the mental stimulation.

maybe it doesn't suit you? or like you say it doesn't grow through thick enough and is unflattering. they might be trying to help you so you look better.

if it doesn't look good already (like its too patchy or thin) then its unlikely its going to look better the longer it gets. a patchy beard generally looks worse when it gets longer, it looks more hobo than chuck norris.
