Why do so many people think being a virgin is bad?

It seems like more men have a problem with other men being virgins than do women have problems with men being virgins. I am looking for an answer to this because yes, I'm a 26 year old virgin, and throughout my life I've been criticized from time to time because I haven't had sex before and am never really talking to women or around women. The criticism isn't happening a lot, just every once in while. I've noticed that both in the real world and online, people have occasionally said that I must be a virgin because I am so quiet. Just the other day, a guy online was laughing at me and saying I was a virgin because I was doing well in a trivia game. My friends have also bugged me about this. For the past few days, the question kind of hit me, why do so many people think it's such a bad thing being a virgin?

Because MTV, reality shows and pop culture in general tells us it's bad, therefore it must be bad.

I lost the infamous v-card "just to have done it" and not out of love or anything like that. It really messed up my views on sex for a while, but I've come to realize that it might have been better than waiting for the right girl--who may never come or who may shun me for being inexperienced.

Men use it as a status symbol.

Although to me it seems like people joke around with you about it and you get defensive.
Try not to correlate peoples words to a personal issue with yourself.

That being said, this is just something men do. For example :

"I had sex with jen last night"

"No way dude she is SOOO hot"

"Damn straight, I am a plaaayyyyaa"

That is the jist of it lol..

this song might help sum it up further.. lol

As he just said, its a status symbol. I too am one but what helped me was that i just embraced it and stopped being scared of being one. and :poof: it all seemed to have went away. my confidence rose, more women started looking my way, had more girlfriends, and best of all ppl didnt criticize me for it but instead respected me. so what i am saying is, forget about what their saying and just embrace it.

Or ppl link it to having a soulmate. I'd love to be a non-virgin, but I'd love it a lot more to just have a gf etc.

its not a bad thing at all they are all just immature twats that have nothing better to do than put others down. Im the same age as you and in the same position. I want it to be with someone really special but i have not found her yet.

I don't see it as a bad thing at all. It's just the influence these days in my opinion.. People are being exposed to sex at younger and younger ages. Some people get to the point they treat it as a "hobby".

I'm proud to be a virgin, and I'm 26 years old as well. I'm not that religious, but I am in the sense that I plan to save myself for the right girl.

People think everyone should of done it by they are like 20 years old, and if you have not they think its strange or wierd. Just because had sex at 16 or younger.
