Worst Nightmares

I was wondering how many of you have experienced any nightmares that truly terrified you. I know almost all the time when I dream, I have these images of people glaring at me for a prolongued period of time, creepy music playing, being shot in video game/reality of my dream, being bitten by an animal, my parents dying, stuffing myself with too much food, people chasing after me (this seems to be the most occuring theme in my dreams) I usually would run away from my house and someone would chase after me, people walking slowly towards me like they are about to kill me, falling off a roller coaster, my teeth falling out, drowning and can't push myself up out of the water(also another occuring theme), spinning around in a car or any kind of vehicle, ect.

I would like to hear if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

Don't know that any of my nightmares have truly terrified me. I do have some recurring nightmares about failing at stuff. Late for a job on the first day, have to take a test in fifteen minutes I didn't study for, etc -- I get those every now and then but I can't say they genuinely terrify me.

Abandoned in my old family home with night coming on. Usually shut in a room, the lounge room or my old bedroom. I know the house is haunted and the ghosts are waiting outside, or at the door trying to get in.

This may sound dumb. I had a dream that my mental health was the same sh*t it always is and I was an old man still suffering. The thought of living that long and still suffering scared me quite a bit.

Oh there's also other dreams I have where I'm in surgery, but awake I think during the procedure. I never had surgery before so it always has scared me a lot because I actually think it is happening. But the ones that I do have the most are definitely me running away from home out of the streets and I look behind me and there's someone chasing after me. I've had others where I would pause a video game that I'm playing, and when it's still on pause for a brief moment, the game still goes on. I've often had dreams of snakes, bees stinging me, spiders, leopards, ect. I don't think I ever recall ever once having a good dream.

 Sorry, am not laughin' cuz it's funny or anythin'. Just that I've had surgery twice now. And I actually had this waking up during surgery nightmare before ma recent surgery. Thankfully, it didnae happen.

Though, to put you at ease. If ye every do need to have surgery for one reason or another, the anesthetist usually makes sure yer prepped, vital sign are being monitored, any pain relief you may need after surgery is in place. And yer put under before you go into theatre. So, it's no like ye see any of the instrument they'll be using. At least, that how ma recent experience went. Don't if things are different with NHS in England and Wales compared to Scotland as far as that process goes? Though, feeling of the anesthesia kicking in is an odd one to describe to someone who's never had surgery before.

Sorry, didnae mean to ramble on and on with this reply. :giggle:

I have one where I'm still in high school and I've just been told that I'll have to repeat my senior year for what would be the 20th time now.

It sounds funny, but it's always really unsettling.

I have nightmares like that too, but its been about having not finished university, and a subject that I really didn't enjoy.

Actually funny you mentioned that, because I do have some dreams (this isn't necessarily a nightmare) where I'm still in highschool and I'm graduating all over again. Even dreams where I am really little and in kindegarden, riding buses, talking to friends I used to know or ex friends... and to me it does feel like it's really happening.

Sometimes its zombies (because I hate them) and sometimes its the classic Communion-style alien in my bedroom nightmare. They dont terrify me but they unnerve me.

I also remember there was this short dream I had that almost frightened me... I was sitting in my room watching tv when all of a sudden the power goes out and my room is just completely dark. So then the tv also begins to make that static noise. Somehow, I felt so groggily and weak that I couldn't even stand up. I thought there was someone else in the room watching me or something. Then as I tried to stand up I think I heard a beeping noise, and my eyes started to black out or something... and I felt like I stopped breathing. Then I woke up, and I swear it was the truly the most scariest thing I've dreamt about so far. Death is a large part of my fears that I always think and worry about, so in my dreams, it's scary because it did really feel like I was dying for a minute.

Most of mine are plain stupid & annoying & leave me wierded-out upon awaking. Also i really wish my dreams wouldn't have other people in it, as people make me anxious even in my dreams.

As for violent dreams, i've had a fair few, right from a toddler (terrifying ones that woke me screaming). Some i've even actually hurt myself by kicking the wall or punching something while dreaming. So i am quite used to having the odd violent dreams, and it doesn't bother me much nowadays. The worst one that sticks in my mind is a very rare blood-and-gore type of dream i had a few years back, where i was in what seemed to be a large factory (abattoir??), and it was completely full knee-deep of piles of raw bloodied meat, carcasses & liquid blood, which i had to "wade" through, but the scary part was that according to the dream they were actually human bodies & body parts (but barely distinguishable), almost like being at the scene of an massive explosion in a crowded place, or a hitler death camp. That one still perplexes me to this day; still can't quite figure out what it meant. In dream theory, the more violent the dream, the more unsettled/repressed/frustrated/unhappy/tormented/tortured you are. So i guess i was fairly troubled at that point?

I do like to look into the meanings of dreams when i can (i have a couple books), but the thing is that they are just so damned complex, with way too many possibilities (ie VERY vague) - that you might as well just save time & frustration, and just read your horoscope!

I had very similar dreams to what you described about gore, human body parts, although it had nothing do with factories. I do have dreams where I'm in a horror movie for example, and these horror movies that I have inside my head are not the typical "hollywood"horror movies, it's hard to explain, but they do involve graphic images and gory human body parts... I think one of them involved me being a victim trapped inside a house with some kind of serial killer. My memory though isn't that great so I can't remember too much about my dreams. Also, the dreams that I used to have were people tickling me to death, even when I pleaded for them to stop, they still would tickle me. But these people would do it to torture me either because I made a mistake on something, running away from them, accidentally hit them, ect Somehow almost every dream that I have revolves around Pokemon, literally almost every single dream is about that where I'm playing the video games or even in a Pokemon battle. There would be dreams where the phone would ring and I'm trapped in this big, scary mansion and when I'd pick it up, there'd be a monstrous voice speaking on the other end, and then the phone would cut off or something...

My other dream that I mentioned was drowning, and if I fall underwater or if someone is forcefully pushing me down, I feel like my nose has been clogged up, it gets harder to breathe and I can't push myself back up. And even when I do try to push my head out of the water, I still feel like I can't breathe...

I might actually remember having one good dream where me and some other friends were in some kind of fantasy, night grand carnival party where there were light up "magical" looking rides, with colorful balloons and fire works. I think everyone there was throwing confetti and chanting too. Although that moment lasted for about a few minutes sadly :/

Well I've never felt downright terrified, but I used to have two types of recurrent dreams that were kind of unnerving:

1. Dreaming I'm in a public place with no clothes/very little clothes on.

2. Being chased by something and feeling myself run out of breath as I'm running away, then whatever's chasing me finally catches me. These dreams are usually inspired from some video game I've played. I also remember I used to have dreams where James Bond was trying to kill me. I have no idea why. :/

That's the same thing I experience in my dreams where someone is chasing after me, only for some reason as I'm running down the streets, my legs all of a sudden grow weak and tired and I feel like I'm slowing down. Now, I'm not saying I ever or will ever run away from home, but in my dream I guess I do so without thinking... one of my parents would try and chase after me down the streets and then my legs would grow heavy and worn out. It's the same thing when I'm underwater in my dream or swimming, I feel like I'm running out of breath and I can barely breathe through my nose, almost to the point where I'm suffocated... and even though it is a dream, I just hate that feeling because I can really feel myself not being able to breathe. :/

Oh yeah I had dreams like that too, I would be shopping in the mall with my family and then when I'm surrounded by a crowd of people, all of a sudden I'm not sure how it's possible this happens, but my clothes disappear and I'm standing there in nude while everyone is watching me. Sorry, I don't mean to be graphic or anything, but I usually run away in embarrasment when this happens and my whole family looks at me puzzled or asking Jaime where's your clothes or something.

Walking through a crowded street, and I can hear everyones mind. Mean, sick, and corrupt thoughts. Many are about me. Then I realize I'm naked. And as I start to cry, my teeth begin to fall out.

So scary

Oh, and one that I have been having lately is that I have a baby. And I am so happy to be a mom, so when I'm at the hospital... I want to hold my baby, but my mom and sisters keep avoiding me and hogging the baby. Then when I go home, the baby is in a car seat and I can't see him... But I want to hold him, and my sisters keep giving me excuses as to why I can't hold him yet.

They give me pills so I can rest, basically keeping me drugged. But all I want is the baby. I finally start to cry because I'm so weak and frustrated that I haven't held the baby. Finally, they let me see him... And my mom is encouraging me, saying that everything will be OK. And she says that as long as we love him , nothing else matters.

So when she finally hands me the baby, I see him... And its a monkey.

But I don't care, I still hug and kiss him... But soon they take away to study him and why he's a monkey.

I have had this dream at least 5times.
