Writing

I have always wanted to write (short stories/novels), but tend to not get further than an idea. I am typically a really good writer, but that's based on essays for school. I know a lot of people who are (possibly) much better writers than I am. I currently have two ideas for books that I think could be very interesting and intriguing if presented in the right way. If I do write, I would do so under a pen name, to keep anonymity (not fond of attention--what a surprise!)
Have you ever done anything that you were really self-conscious about, or thought you couldn't do?

I would say, give it a try. I also dream of writing but I know I am not good at writing, so its just a wishful dream for me. I agree there are lot of obstacles before starting anything, including our fears. But you cannot know until you try.

Hi lilmutegirl.

Writing is a cool goal to have in life. It is the foundation of so many things. I used to think of becoming a writer myself. I wrote one book and have yet to finish typing it(I suck at typing >_<).

Now my dream is to become a pro wrestler, actress, and singer all in one.

I am so self-conscious about singing and I still sometimes think I can't cause my own family would tease me about it. But I still sing with a passion. I want to do these things with all the life i have in me.

I like writing, but never really get around to it. But every year I do Nanowrimo.

50000 words in 30 days. It is lots of fun joining the community and writing a story from start to finish. Even if the story sucks.

I enjoy writing poetry, but I don't like whiny poetry. I enter writing contests whenever I find them, and I've won a few on a national level. This one time I had to read some of my poems in front of an entire auditorium (I won first place in the poetry category) and it was nerve-wrecking, but extremely liberating, especially considering the applause and all the smiles I got in return.

I've been trying to write for a while. I tend to overthink things and becoome obsessive over the tiniest details. So I can only ever write when I don't care about doing it.

The hardest part is rolling up your sleeves and getting started. It may take a lot of tries and time spent until something good comes. I wish you luck. :)

I had a story published on line, and was asked to do a reading of it for a radio show. I couldn't do it.

I used to have the same goal, but writing a novel is actually really hard and I think I got a little too ambitious. I wrote one novella and edited it compulsively for 4 or 5 years before deciding that it was horrible and abandoning it forever.

I am currently writing a script for a film I'd like to do.

I have the same problem as you do. I have a a good talent in my writing and art skills, but as far as writing goes, I can never finish at least one book because the stupid writer's block and dialogue between people get in the way. It's so much easier when you see in movies/shows what the characters are doing, how they socialize with others, the setting, ect because you see everything without having to tell what the characters are doing, the place they are at, ect. I think I also can't write because I'm unsure of which story I want to start with first because I have so many ideas in my head that I would like to write for a story.

I find writing to be one of the best kinds of mindfulness. I try to describe what I see hear and feel.
