How do you deal with suicidal thoughts?

On September 14th I committed failed suicide. I have the thoughts and emotion to do it again. How do I deal with it when social stressers are all around that was the cause of it last time.::(:

Make a distraction plan for yourself when you are feeling suicidal. Take a shower, watch tv, read, talk to a friend, take some Ritalin or Adderall etc etc.

Good advice here, also just try to keep thinking positive and suicidal thoughts will fade over time if you stay on the straight and narrow.:)

Distraction is probably the way. The underlying mechanism is that you don't reinforce the thought of suicide. The more you think of it, the stronger it will become. You give it the power that it needs to manifest itself simply by thinking of not thinking about it.

Do stuff you like, or don't like, it doesn't really matter what you do - just keep yourself active.

Yeah like Mikefly said I remind myself that my thoughts tend to change after a while. So if I make it though the bad patch I start to feel better again. So at the worst times...just hang in there and know that it will change.

I do often wonder why these things come in waves and are not consistent, as it doesn't seem to be as a result of external influences for me.

Also eat a hell of a lot of chocolate at bad times (although maybe this only works for girls) :)

Sorry but i dont agree with that Distraction Plan at all, You need to find the root problem and remove it forever.

Come up with an escape plan instead, like moving some place far away or making some kind of radical change. Whenever you feel suicidal, think about the escape plan instead, when you would go, how much money you'd need to save, what you'd bring with you, all the crap you'd leave behind. Or just collect pictures of the place. only thing that seems to work.

Escapism seldom helps. You are the problem, not your environment. (There are rare cases where the environment plays a substantial part in one's problems, but in average, that isn't the case.)

Its hard for me too lately, but I try to think about family and close persons, even if you think not, there is someone out there who will deeply miss you.

Sadly that doesn't apply to everyone as nice as it would be.
Myself, for instance. I could drop off of the face of the earth and no one would notice. Literally. No one even knows I exist so obviously no one will miss me :p
That's just my case, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who wouldn't be missed at all.

I get these thoughts every day or every other day but I've never attempted it. I'm too scared of what will happen during a failed attempt. If I had access to cyanide I probably would have already taken it.

I know exactly how you feel. I wish there was something I could say to help you. I'm sorry. I'd say maybe try counseling? :(

the nature of suicide is the need to escape. it is easier and safer to escape from your environment than it is to escape yourself. it helps me.

It's been put as the case when your coping mechanisms are not sufficient enough for the situation.
