How are you feeling?

I have just been informed that due to a clerical error made by my last tertiary education provider, I now owe the government thousands of dollars that I dont have, nor can I return to study.

Guess I will just stay on welfare.

Well I just woke up at 5 PM, thus my entire day is down the drain. Im getting sick aswell, I guess my usually Arnold Schwarzenegger like immune system is saying " IL BE BACK!"
Looks like your immune system has been pushing too many pencils.

So...you have to pay for someone else's mistake? Harsh. ::(:

Pretty much. Its complicated....and atrociously unfair.
I am feeling dejected and disillusioned....what a crappy mess this whole affair has turned out to be.
It is very unfair. The same thing would happen here, too.

Sorry you're feeling dejected about the whole thing. It's very unfortunate.

I'm in the same situation, here.
Sorry you're going through it too, Kia-- it's bull****.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It thoroughly sucks.

Can you sue them? Or at least make a complaint? (Some universities write off at least part of debt, so you might pay eg only 1/3 if in low financial circumstances) But 1st of all: Can you get free legal help??

Hope you find a way to deal with this!! (There's probably some 'support forum' for students and/or consulting on financial/legal matters or such??)

Are you sure there is nothing that can be done through legal channels? You may be eligible for some legal help if the situation involves an error made by someone else worth thousands of dollars?
Makes me wish I was born in the baby boomers era. University was provided free for most of them in our country.::(:

Sue them? I dont know about that... thats seems terribly grown up...and its probably more hassle than its worth... I may look at getting some advice though, I dont feel I deserve the position that I have been put in, its all policy and bureaucracy in my opinion. The truth is though, I dont fully understand the system in place - and I dont seem to be able to get any straight answers.... the people I speak to are so impatient and dismissive.... I may make a complaint, but I need to make sure I know what I am talking about first..

I can admit that I have made some bad decisions... I dropped out of my previous study...but... regardless I am not the one who made the mistake in the first place (a very obvious clerical error, with rammifications affecting my life)....if I had known right from the beginning.... perhaps I would have made a different decision altogether.

All I want... is to do something with my life that means something to me and to live independently.. while I still have time.... its not a huge ask.

Hm, can you get like someone to go through paperwork/questions with you? Like 'advocacy', a friend/relative (who's up for dealing with paperwork) and/or free legal help - law students may have something like that, or a non-profit NGO?
Maybe google 'free legal help for students + your town/uni'?

Here, for some things one just needed to write a letter to be excused of 2/3 of costs (?) that was some years ago tho... You could also ask/google around if others have had this same problem and how they solved it? You're probably not the first? (Or if you are, you can try to make sure it doesn't happen to others too??)

Do you have to pat the amount now, or can it be deferred until you are in employment? I once had a HECs tax bill, I had to pay when I started to earn above a certain amount.
