Does climate change cause earthquakes in places they are not suppose to happen in? :idontknow:

I hope not. I live in a country where there aren't many strong earthquakes (only 3, excluding the islands), and none in the city I live. We only have very weak earthquakes, and I personally never felt one (I'm always sleeping through them I think). I don't think the building I live in could take a strong earthquake, and the same is probably true for most of the city.

Experts say there will be a major earthquake soon like the one the capital had in 1755, and thousands of people would die because the buildings just aren't ready (not even hospitals, only the parliament is ready). It will also be followed by a tsunami. At least this earthquake would only affect the lower half of the country, so I should be safe up here.

Yes, rising sea levels create extra weight on tectonic plates, hence more earthquakes (I made this up, but you never know...)

Well, I think the additional weight as a percentage of the mass of the Earth would be insufficient to make a difference, although H2O is the only substance which weighs more a liquid than as a solid.

Stresses piled up to fry my nervous system already, then along comes a 5.2 earthquake just to give my heart a further dose of adrenaline to deal with.

5.2 in only minor, but when you live in an area of your country that is not supposed to have earthquakes your brain goes into overdrive in the "what the hell is going on!?-mode"

The extra heat makes the topsoil or whatever expand so it is easier for it to rupture, like blowing a balloon up beyond its capacity.

(I just made that up too)

I just wish i had someone. Somebody real close to talk to. Somebody to hug would be good as well. I feel as though i will die before i've really talked and hugged.

That's a bit disconcerting, BlueDays, glad all is OK.

I remember a couple of earth tremors. One when I was quite young, my cupboard shook, and the budgies in the laundry freaked.

Also I do recall feeling the tremor for the Newcastle earthquake.

Iiiiiinteresting. Boston was up for the 2024 Olympics as a potential host city, but was recently withdrawn. I had heard this past year something about the Olympics in Boston, but I didn't think it was serious. I had no idea there was an intense debate for months over it. I don't pay attention to anything

In the end, apparently tax and environmental concerns won out, among other things, but this quote from an article I was reading had me thinking:

“'There’s a way to spin this that should make people feel good, and it goes like this: We don’t do track meets here, we cure cancer,' she wrote. But that view reflected poorly on the city, she said. 'To the world, Boston is still the same old, same old — a difficult place to get anything done, a place where we’re happy as we are.'”

Bostonians are apparently "stodgy" and too comfortable and set in their ways for their own good. I'm not sure I disagree. Los Angeles will apparently take the bid for U.S. host city.

You're better off out of it, the Olympics and the World Cup are unbelievably corrupt events, they're just about filling the offshore bank accounts of CEO's and shareholders. If you look at the stadiums that have been built for these events, costing hundreds of millions each, alot of them are just giant bird baths now. London's Olympic stadium is being given to a football club for free, in fact it's not free because the government is spending a fortune converting it into a football stadium for them. They built the stupid thing, everyone with shares in the construction company made a fortune, then it outlived it's usefulness after a month.

Maybe better off, maybe not. Everything's corrupt. Massachusetts certainly doesn't need any more expenses though. Our public transportation system has been struggling for a while now and is in massive debt (to name just one issue). I just find it funny I missed the whole thing.
