Do you ever feel like you're invisible?

I do. People just seem to overlook me. People cut in front of me in line when I go shopping, sales personnel act like they don't see me. When I am out with my husband, people we know will greet him and chat with him, and act like I am not there. I am really puzzled and hurt by this. And instead of thinking, like, "Jeez, these people are real assholes", I think "Jeez, I must have "asshole" or "loser" or "freak" tattooed on my forehead, to make these people think they can treat me this way." It makes me feel like people can sense that I'm not worth the common decency, courtesy or respect that other people are entitled to. It makes me feel like others can sense that I'm no better than a pile of dogshit on the sidewalk. Sorry, I just needed to let off some steam after a traumatic and stressful Christmas-shopping trip yesterday.

People cut you in line because people want to get their items faster, not because they don't see you. Salesmen don't talk to you because most of them hate their jobs and have a bunch of problems going on in their life. You have a husband, that alone should be a comfort.

I don't really notice it when I'm out but back when I was at school I did feel a bit invisible, even when i was with friends.. I suppose it's my fault really though because I never really made an effort to speak to new people. Overall people there were nice but I just couldn't get over my anxiety (about blushing mostly).

Yeah I feel invisible at times, dreamlike sometimes also. I'll like to say depersonalization at least from what I have read about it. Like, almost but not quite heh.

People just seemed to grow to ignore me and pointedly ignore me, probally due to the majority of the time I would ask them to repeat heh ironic to get used to being ignored and yet disliking it thusly continuing them to ignore due to my reply trained through experience 'of' being ignored :|, and as for in shops ect. I reckon its just how some people are.

On another note, Christmas! Always seemingly causing problems xD. (uh best to ignore this im just real tired)

I've felt like this plenty of times. I've been fortunate enough to identify, investigate, and learn about this phenomenon further. If this is someone you have never met before, then their reaction to you (unless you have some physical abnormality) is entirely based on your subtle non-verbal communication.

The next time you feel like you're being completely ignored, try to catch yourself using socially evasive behavior. Small things, like shifting eye contact too quickly, can give the impression that you're not interested in socialising. It's not something most people pick up on consciously, but if you're aware of it, you can begin to take steps to correct it.
