Nerdy obsessions...

Everybody has an obsession, right? My nerdy obsession is with Lord of the Rings, I love anything and everything to do with it. So I was just wondering what everybody else’s nerdy obsessions were. Ok, so it doesn’t have to be nerdy, could be anything, come on girls – shoes, handbags, you know what I mean…:wink: and guys…(trying to think past the obvious one of footie here)…er…gadgets…?…beer mats…? Well whatever, like I’d know.
I have a friend who has a lipgloss obsession and she used to love socks…8O?
Oh yeah, I also have a nerdy obsession with dolls houses (yeah, I am quite sad). I have an ever increasing collection of tiny wittle doll’s house accessories, they’re so cute! And I’m even trying to build my own, tho it’s been in the making for about 5 yrs and it’s still only a kitchen lol. I don’t tell many ppl about these obsessions, cos they’d probably think I was strange …even tho they’re not really that strange. Oh well, that’s sp for ya!

OMG, nerdy obsessions for girls being that of handbags and lipgloss...Oops, I guess i went wrong somewhere then, my nerdy obsessions are weapons (Keen collector), My favourite being my Samurai swords, I have quite a few now. I also collect comics, old martial arts movies and action figures and toys, mainly the old style actionman or collectables like the first edition of Star Wars toys. My fave toy being my Hero limited edition Buzz Lightyear...If thats all nerdy then I'm happy to be a nerd

Well, I don't have a lot of money to spend on my obsessions, but mine are asian cinema and anything Japanese; mental illnesses (yeah, I know... but a lot of my friends have interesting mental conditions and I just like to learn about it); Final Fantasy 8 (my favourite video game and it provides me with a much needed fantasy world); and zombies. I have this strange paranoia that any day there could be a zombie epidemic. Other people have a plan for what they do in case of fire, and I have a plan for zombies.

Well I collect everything that has made a mark on me. That includes school text books, sheets of paper you name it. So essentially, I collect junk.

Ive often thought that maybe people with Socialphobia might have more interests/nerdy obsessions than people without as we spend more time alone than most people. Well certainly thats the case for me anyways.

Oh and Specs, Im fortunate enough to live in New Zealand so have been to a lot of the Lord of the Rings film locations. On a roadtrip last summer I ended up camping at the lake that Frodo went across in the canoe at the end of the first movie. I found the place where Samwise Gamgee ran into the water after him and nearly drowned and caught up in the moment I re-enacted the scene, running into the water fully clothed yelling out "Im coming with you Mr Frodo" - I failed to realise that another group of people had just emerged from the bush at the lakeside and they were rather amused...

My own obsessions mostly rotate around history. My room is like a mini museum with display cabinets housing my antique, militaria and historical collections. I also specialise in collecting old letters, postcards and photos from 1800 - 1945. Also Im obsessed with the History Channel and any movie that is remotely historical. Other than that I do have other random obsessions, like my dream to be a vintage aircraft pilot. However my most nerdiest obsession would be my interest in cryptozoology (the study and search for mythological or thought to be extinct species of animals) I am yet to make any startling discoveries but have found clues, my best find being some Moa bones on a beach (Moa are an "extinct" bird from NZ that were bigger than humans) am yet to find a living one though.. the only Moa's I have found are the ones that cut the lawn. =(

Great feedback everyone! You all have some very interesting obsessions, esp the samurai swords, LilMiss. I am proud to be a nerd with you all .

I was just using shoes and handbags as an example for girls, I don’t actually have a shoe obsession myself. I have quite a few shoes, but that’s just cos I kept finding bargains and now I don’t know what to do with them all!

J*H, I also collect ‘junk’, I’m a complete hoarder, hardly ever throw stuff away and now my room is bursting at the seams. I can find sentiment attached to any old worthless thing, so I can never bring myself to throwing it away. Yep, got all my old school books, even tho they make me cringe. Even got most of my old cinema tickets. I also keep random things that I think might come in useful one day, but most of them have lain around for yrs, still waiting for their moment to shine.

Hey Horatio, you’re so lucky to live in New Zealand/Middle Earth! I’m planning on making a pilgrimage there one day, when air fares have plummeted (tch, as if!). It looks so beautiful, and diverse. Lol, I’m sure I’d do a hilarious re-enaction too if I was at one of the locations :lol:! Uh-oh, don’t get me started on LotR, I can talk for hours… Interesting obsessions btw.
I think you’re right about sp’s having more interesting obsessions/hobbies. We’re sensitive souls who do a great deal of thinking, so naturally our interests would reflect this.

Just to add, I also have a ‘clown’ collection consisting of porcelain and string puppet clowns. Not scary clowns, tho, they’re all very cute. Oh and I love anything to do with mythology, fantasy and faeries, esp in artwork.

im not "obsessed" with anything in particular atm, but last thing i spend all my time and money on for a few weeks was old skool video games, 8 bit, 16 bit, and even the sega saturn, actually i still play that a bit, sega made the best games back in those days 8)

Lets see, nerdy interests;

*birds (I was a bird-watcher kid!) ... a few years ago I could name any species of any bird I saw, but the amount and variation of wildlife that visit gardens in London now has decreased, so I unfortunately fell out of this hobby.



*machines, anything mechanical/finding out how things work. My favourite machine is the rotary engine I think its a genius idea (I think the inventor was a spirograph fan) -

i must say that i am proud of my obsession. David Attenborough box sets.
i have a heavy obsession with wild life. i am obsessed with action movies that have sexy women in it(but then again just dvd's in general). im obsessed with spiders, fish, birds, the good of this planet, how people treat eachother and im very obsessed with the connection between a mother and her child.
