I think it's how you label yourself, there is no strict definition of being a love-shy

Personally I tend to think love-shyness is due to general pessimism/negativity/scepticism & fears (mostly imagined; which is pessimism about the future). Also another form of negativity is "finicky-ness" or "picky-ness", where you find the smallest excuse whatsoever, not to engage/cohabitate/etc with the opposite sex

I think the reason love-shy people come up with the pessimism/negativity/skepticism is because of fear. Love-shy people will look for any excuse or reason to get out of walking up to the opposite sex and talking to them because they are afraid. Fear can be a powerful thing

For me I think it's equally about my fears as it is about me just being generally a very negative person (particularly at "that time of the month" - i'm very sensitive to the moon cycles). For others it might mainly be about the fears.

I have found over time that people tend to think I am fairly good looking, even though I can't believe it myself. This sometimes leads to situations where a girl will be enthusiastic at first when meeting me, but them proceed to become creeped out when I make it seem like I don't like them by not talking to them or looking them in the eyes.

For the record, I like the long list because it covers a wide variety of possibilities for causes and various effects. It helps me organize what I think about myself in this particular area. Although more detailed questions have their benefits as well.

One girl during high school. I was not attracted to her, but I thought I ought to at least try something since it was wierd to have never had a missus during high school. We didn't become formal bf and gf, but we hooked up three times.

6) In addition to love shyness, do you have any other phobias or anxieties?

Fear of talking to strangers my age, fear of spiders, fear of death, VERY strong aversion to vomiting, VERY sensitive to illness, and so forth.

7) Have you received any services of psychologists, psychotherapists or psychiatrists?

I thought I had ADD when I failed my first semester at my second university. A physician prescribed me Ritalin, and it got me through the next two semesters. But I failed again. And now I am about to be kicked out.

8) If yes, were they any helpful?

It addressed some peripheral issues, maybe. But my physician is unaware of my anxiety, my love-shyness, and my social phobia.

I attempted to screw the girl in high school. But I got so nervous at the time that I was unable to get an erection. I felt no passion--just self consciousness.

YES!!!

I was suspicious about my attitude with girls when I was 14, but I had never heard of love-shyness. I learned about it when I was about 18 or so.

HELL NO!!!

Absolutely despicable, wicked and disgusting. Lack of empathy does not even begin to describe it.

I board with a family, and rarely venture out of my room. So probably, yeah.

18) Are you satisfied with your career and financial situation?

Absolutely, unequivocally not.

19) Do you think you could achieve more in your career if you weren't a love shy?

Abso-damn-lutely!!!!

20) What kind of work would you like to do?

If I *knew I could not fail*, I would probably become a human rights lawyer, a journalist, or a political scientist. But I don't think I have the intelligence or the willingness to go out of my comfort zone and take risks to be able to do any of those things.

I am about to get kicked out.

Untill last semester, I think so. I never spoke up, never went to see my professors, or anything like that, but I kept my head down and got reasonably good grades.

I keep up with the news ALL THE TIME, and enjoy reading up on economics, political philosophy, and American history. I don't know if I am smart enough to be considered an intellectual. I don't form many of my own opinions; they are mostly regurgitated lines from smart people who have already figured **** out.

Psychologically, I am a incoherent wasteland. Physically, I am mildly overweight, but reasonably fit.

Apart from my psychological impediments, no.

I drink socially (I like to get very drunk when with friends). I use Ritalin for my depression, and to concentrate when I have to perform some demanding task.

I'm an adamant atheist, and have been since the year before last, when I did immense soul searching.

I used to practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu quite alot. I don't play any sports anymore.

I don't know; it might stem from (1) my naturally weird, awkward disposition (2) my low confidence and non-existent self esteem (3) the morbid fear of rejection (4) the very negative way that girls viewed me in high school. Moreover, I am terrified of intimacy, and actually showing that I am a human being with emotions.
