Tricky situation

Have a few things on my mind and I am at a stage on not knowing what to do next. Problem is am dead nervous on the situation of going to America for a 2 week holiday. I went last year as I had thought I was strong enough to cope with it, as I had been doing well locally at home for a few years. Well it prove to be wrong, had a nightmare on a few occasions especially when comming home, just being in a confined environment such as the airport as an example.

Recently I was in Brighton for a 2 day game conference, part of work. I had some good moments but mainly it was a total nightmare, so mentally and physically exhausted. I just give up on trying to remain positive that I just remained so distant to everything including my work mates. Wasn't a pleasant experience. The main problem was the airport, trains, Brighton exceptionally hot weather at the time.

You may be asking why am I putting myself through this again, I even ask myself that. I know I can get something positive out of it as I have done with other trips and events in the past. But I do not want my SA and my HH to get the better of me, I just want to keep trying, I just want to be able to live my life in the best way I can.

Been looking into things that have been mentioned on the forums, such as Robinul and wipe pads etc. (Never knew such a thing HH existed in medical terms, just thought it was my fault). Been to the GP and had 4 blood samples, prescribed anhydrol forte, which burned the shite out of me, my skin is very sensitive. I asked about Robinul, which is on the NHS and can be prescribed which I was surprised to hear as I thought it wasn't. He didn't want to prescribe it, he wanted to refer me to a dermatologist so I could be under a specialist supervision, which is a few months away. In the mean time I am stuck on what I should do for taking precautionary measures for my holiday.

Note: I am new to this forum and I may not know of other alternatives that may help me. I would love to hear from anyone with any suggestions or advice that could help me.

Thank you for taking time to read this post.

Where abouts do you suffer with hyperhidrosis exactly?

The general terms are palmar (hands), plantar/pedal (feet), axillary (armpits), facial and cranial (face and head).

Sorry for the delay, just only getting a chance to post to your reply from home. As for your question I mainly suffer within the armpits, face, head and back.

Have you tried any roll ons such as Driclor or certain dri for your armpits? (they're all basically the same just a different name).

For the other parts the first thing I think of is something called "Secure wipes". You basically just wipe these over the area and they contain something called glycopyrrolate which stops nerve transmissions reaching the sweat glands, so they can't produce sweat. Some people say they work very well. There is a newish thread on this forum where someone is trying out these wipes. You could give that a read.

Just been going through the posts that you have suggested, gonna get those secure wipes and test them over the next week at work and see how I get on. As for Driclor is that like Anhydrol forte, if so it will drive my skin nuts. Will try both products, just was wondering are these available in the UK as my case Northern Ireland.

Cheers for the response and I'll post back on how I get on over the next week. Hopefully it will help solve my dilemma of going on holidays in a few weeks time.

Marty, you may have read some of my posts, in paticular 'Facial Sweating'. This condition is a bit of a curse and those who don't suffer it cannot imagine the grief it gives. My best remedy is probanthine, available on prescription, a pill that I use in exceptional conditions. In the main it dries me up for about 3 hours a time when taken on an empty stomach. I use it for work related and social occasions when I know I will sweat and when I know it will be embarrassing. Other times I just allow the sweat to come.

My GP prescribed taking 1-2 tablets 3 times a day. I don't. I only take it when I need it.

I've only taken it for a year or so and I've no negative symptoms to mention other than dry mouth and compensatory sweating on my legs. Both are not a problem. What i don't know is how long these good effects will last. Others have stated that the effect reduces. I hope that if taken sparingly, it will keep on working when i most need it.

I am also going to look at the secure wipes as an alternative as well as trying to keep relatively fit and cutting out alchohol which I'm sure doesn''t help.

There will probably never be a cure for this, in my lifetime anyway, but short of ETS surgery which I'll never have, reduction of the problem is the best we can hope for.

Good luck

Marty...you gotta try Ditropan man. It helped me a lot with my facial sweating. I do get a dry mouth and dry hands..but that is easier to cope with then sweating like crazy in your face when everybody else is totally cool.

$50 for 500 tablets it's a pretty good deal. I usually take 5mg in the morning and 5mg in the evening and that helps me stay sweat free most of the time.

You can order ditropan from http://www.inhousedrugstore.com/general/oxybutynin.html
