did anyone tape this?

Hi just wondering if anyone taped this programme? I really wanted to watch it as have been suffering with excessive sweating for years. BUT I forgot and was out so unfortunately missed it. If anyone has taped it i'd be happy to refund any postage costs if you could send it to me? Thanks.

Underarm Sweating

I watched Hidden Lives tonight totally by chance and felt so sorry for those women, when I was younger in my 20's and early 30's I had the most dreadful underarm sweating just like the lady in the programme,I finally got rid of it with a preparation called Anhydrol Forte ..... I would recommend this 100% ..... I have not suffered one single day of sweaty wet armpits for many years and it's thanks to this stuff,it can be purchased Online .... any questions regarding this product feel free to ask me my Email is [email protected]
Good Luck everyone x

I've just watched the programme and was shocked to see that toni was not offered any surgery. I'm 24 and had surgery 6 months ago for the same problem. I was on the waiting list for the operation for 2 years and because of the waiting time, my operation was done privately through BUPA (I didn't have to pay). When I met my surgeon he offered me at least 3 kinds of surgery (ETS wasn't one of them) and I got to have my pick. The surgery wasn't without complications but definitely worth it. Those who suffer from it should persevere as there is definitely more than one kind of surgery available and it's available now.

Hey haggis would you mind giving some more info on the surgery you had if you don't mind me asking.

What were the 3 types you were offered if you can still remember ?
What kind did you go for ?
When you say you didn't have to pay what do you mean (like did some kind of insurance pay for it, or someone else or got nhs to pay or something ?)
do you know how much the cost would have been ?
what were the complications you mention ?
how is your sweating now ?

many thanks in advance been looking into/thinking about alot recently so great to have some more info from someone whos had done (and through bupa who Ive been looking at)

I can't remember the name of my operation but I can explain it for you. I had an incision made under each arm, the skin was peeled down and the sweat gland nerve endings were scraped away and removed. The other operations I was offered was the complete removal of the sweat gland which would have required extensive surgery or liposuction. I was on the NHS waiting when I was given my date for surgery. It wasn't until I got to the hospital that I realised it was getting done through BUPA. I wasn't told before hand but afterwards they said that because of the waiting period for the surgery, a lot of the operations were being done free through BUPA. Unfortunately I don't know the price for the surgery. After the surgery I was told that the dressings would only be on for 2 weeks max, I, unfortunately, had 9 infections in each arm. Because of this, my dressings stayed on for 6 months and I had to attend the doctors every day to have my wound cleaned and re-dressed. My left arm eventually healed after 5 months but I was left with a large open wound under my right arm. I was referred to a skin specialist for a skin graft but thankfully my wound is now starting to close. If you had asked me 5 months ago if I recommend the surgery I would have said no...but after watching the programme I remembered what it was like to have hyperhidrosis and now I would certainly recommend it. I may have had a lot of complications but my arm will eventually heal...hyperhidrosis won't. The nerve endings will grow back under my arms and I will start to sweat again but it will be nowhere near as extreme as it was before. You do also compensate elsewhere but again, this is not as bad as what you're probably going through. I tried every available 'fix' for this problem including anhydrol forte, ientophoresis and botox...the operation is the only way to stop it. I hope this answers all your questions...feel free to email me on [email protected] if you need anymore help.

Thanks for the info Haggis. I have used Anhydrol-forte in the past, but it really burnt me. It was actually painful. I remember getting up in the middle of the night to wash it off because I couldn't stand it anymore. Although, perhaps it's worth trying again. You never know, my armpits might be tougher now!!!!

im 16 and suffer from hyperhidrosis too.
im trying the anhydrol forte thing atm but it doesnt work at all. it hurts and itches so much but i wouldnt mind if it worked

i dont want to make you feel bad, but people at school were talking about the show and they said exactly what you would think they would..."why don't they just wash more and wear deodorant" etc
nothing could change their mind about it, everyone thinks its so disgusting and they still don't get it.

Maybe a cure for some - maybe not!

Please read this - it may be useful - let me know if it is!

I to came across this prog by chance - I can totally identify with all of you above - especially as I have it all over. I liked Toni in the other single parent thing - I thought she was the only normal person there..

I thought I was by myself with this and only sweat under my arms, hands and feet. I used Driclor under my arems - I thought it was a godsend, I advised my sister on it - she too thought it was fantastic. But to my horror the only thing it did for me was to transfer the sweat to my back the rest of my body even my bum cheeks - I sweat everywhere even if it is minus outside. My sister stopped using it immediatley. My worst nightmare is school presentation evenings PLASTIC CHAIRS - I look like ive wet myself but.......
To cut a very long story short I was put on some medication - I am not a doctor or a chemist so please don't quote me: SPIROLACTONE is a drug that I am currently taking OH MY GOD - MY LIFE IS SUDDENLY BACK, I still sweat but I can honestly say that it has reduced by 90% because it has reduced so much I am much more relaxed and hence sweating because of sweating is no longer an issue (I know that you will all identify with this)..... I came off it last year - within a week all the sweating was back. Please can someone else try it (if their doctor will give it - it is heart medication and a diuretic) and give any feedback to me or others on this site - so all can benefit.

Best wishes to all - and like you all I wish for a 'cool' summer. I've been going thru the change for so long!!!!! (and it hasn't even happened yet lol).

Hi all,

I was busy reading your responce on the documentary and I'm glad most of you were pleased with this.

I think they need to make people more aware of this too, of all the treatments that are avail, not just the ETS! I did not agree with what that surgeon said half the time either. The CS % is way higher and with more side effects that would make his head swing!

Maybe get a male view on it this time?

I was happy with the documentary even though I looked bloody awful:)
But in reality that is how I look most of the year round here in Texas.

Anyway I have started a little support group through google groups.
We have a good turn over and it's good for the ladies to be able to rant and rave about this awful affliction.

Hope to see you there.

Tricia - thanks for saying something nice about me after seeing me on Young Mums' Mansion. I wasn't well liked after that and at one point thought that I was the most hated woman in Britain!!!!

I haven't been offered any other treatments since being refused the surgery. In fact, to rub salt into the wound, they've now stopped my botox injections - great!

I've gone back to trying Perspirex. It hurts like hell when I apply it, but I did have four completely dry days. However, today, I'm back to my normal sweaty self - bugger.

Oh well, back to wearing chiffon and jumpers again!

Hi,
I suffer from hyperhidrosis from my feet, hands and armpits.
When I'm extremely hot or nervous I sweat all over but thank god thats very rarely.
Its a nightmare, but I cope just.

Toni
Do you know about iontophoresis. I have recently had the treatment on my hands and feet. It hurts like hell but it works well, you can defiantly see a difference but it is different for everybody.

Trials have just finished on the axillary area according to 'International hyperhidrosis society' and I have recently found out that you can get pads that you can attach and use for the armpit area. Not sure how good it will be but anything is worth a go eh.

I am also thinking of setting up my own website for hyperhidrosis, and would love to know what people would want on this kind of site.

If anyone has any thoughts, it would be greatly received.

hi,
i'm 40, male & until about one month ago i had excessive underarm sweating since i was 32.
one close friend who knew of the problem mentiuoned the sweaty betty show & despite missing it i found this forum tx to google.
i've no idea what brought it on but like so many others on here it made my life very difficult, always carting around spare tshirts to wear under an oversized jumper.
during those years i tried the biggest pantie liners i could get, reams of gaffer tape, gortex & endless supplies of kitchen roll, all secreted under my clothing.
i tried the doc, every deodarant, acupuncture, homeopathy & even considered surgery but the risk of side effects put me off.
then, totally out of the blue, 4 weeks back, just as randomly as it had started, it stopped.
i can actually wear a shirt now - it feels amazing.
i do wish i could impart some knowledge as to how the problem stopped, but i'm afraid that as yet, i have none.
hopefully, if nothing else, it may add a ray of hope to some of you out there.

Hi everyone i had ETS done two weeks ago for my underarm sweating but only on the one side as both was to dangerous i was only supposed to have two weeks off work but it has turned into four the side effects are harsh my eye lid had drupped as i have burning and shocks of pain down my inner arm this is not good the operation was horrible my lung collapsed and i has to have a drain in the swaeting has almost gone but is really bad down my left side still but i cannot go through that again and would rather have the swaey glands removed via liposuction is this avaliable on the NHS

OMG Dale - you poor thing, I cannot believe what happened to you. Please reconsider having anything else done yet.... let your body recover from this awful treatment. As I have said before on this forum I am currently sweat free - yes even in this weather - I feel like a new woman! The drug was given for another reason, but as I was taken off it last year - my sweating came back (all over sweat!). The drug is Spirolactone please please try it first - if your doctor will give it to you. I am not a medical person so cannot be sure of effects. All I know is that I love this drug - I can actually go shopping without looking as if I have been in the local swimming baths first.
