Yall will hate me for this post

^ Before I respond let me ask you something for context. In your opinion, is third-wave feminism still original feminism to you, or do you subscribe only the gender equality stance as which it started?

And when I say subscribe I mean only per definition of the word of course, not so much your overall personal values.

Actually, I'm starting to get really uncomfortable due to participating in this thread.

I'm responding to you instead of the others for a reason, so if you want to talk about it in private, PM me.

I understand, it's a bit too intense an issue to talk about in the open on a anxiety forum I feel. I'm quite uncomfortable posting about it too - feels like I'm stepping on toes of members I'm fond of with every new post. Perhaps it's better if we just leave it here for now.

Hie yer hence from me heath!
What exactly about the end goals of the movement do you think is non-egalitarian? And why are you defining the movement purely in terms of its most radical elements?

Don't want to start shit with ya, but in answer to yer 2nd question there, which might go some way to explaining why some don't see feminism as egalitarian.

I think it's because the more radical elements of feminism are getting more media attention. Don't know if equally as true in the US as it is here in the UK? But here, everytime there's a TV debate about issue that relate to feminism, you get these irration lefties who will disagree with an opinion if it comes from conservative perspective and say that if you're for equality then by default you have to identify as and with feminism. Oh, they use that argument that, on account of being men, they have no right to talk about or be critical of feminism

Then there's feminist Julie Bindell who wrote an article in the Guardian saying she'd be happier if all men and boys were locked away in concentration camps and masculinity be eradicated from society.

Quite ironic that journalist Milo Yiannopoulos is always defending the heterosexual men who are demonised by feminism, given that he's gay. But at least he's challenging feminists as well as the media when they make a claim that is untrue.

And while I get that those examples I gave don't represent feminism as a whole. There is definitely a lack of more rational, reasonable feminist voices getting mainstream media attention for the most part. Which could go someway to explaining why feminism always get associated with the more bat-shit crazy, radicial women who identify with the movement.

Okay, let's take a look at what she said:

"I mean, I would actually put them all in some kind of camp where they can all drive around in quad bikes, or bicycles, or white vans. I would give them a choice of vehicles to drive around with, give them no porn, they wouldn’t be able to fight – we would have wardens, of course! Women who want to see their sons or male loved ones would be able to go and visit, or take them out like a library book, and then bring them back."

So you think that this woman really wants to create a massive camp for the billions of men in the world, provide them with free vehicles, focus on depriving them of porn and allow women to check them out like library books?

There's a reason the only people treating this as a controversy are piddly blogs and MRAs... it's because it's so blatantly and obviously ridiculous that there is no way she could have ever believed anyone would take it seriously. But she apparently overestimated her enemies.

I think she's probably too extreme for my tastes, but this is hardly a controversy.

The majority of people in this thread are criticizing feminism.
Has anyone been arrested yet?

Of course not, but this is a subject that makes people very nervous.

Men keep quiet lest they be labelled a "misogynist" or "evil patriarch."

Women keep quiet lest they be considered a traitor to their own gender.

The idea of this movement has been to make it so any critics are automatically painted in a negative light therefore the movement itself always maintains a moral high ground.

You forgot the women who keep quiet because they don't want to be labelled misogynist or evil matriarch or one of the many other things feminists are called.

I didn't read all of the thread but it appears to me that most people who posts don't see feminism as a good thing.

Most of the people in this thread have been ranting about how feminists are irrational authoritarians who want to control/ruin everyone's lives... and what kicked it off was a rant about how boys these days are basically doormats who refuse to behave like they're apparently supposed to.

If you don't want to be accused of being something negative, maybe you should refrain from participating in these kinds of debates... because I'm pretty sure it's what happens when people disagree with each other. Both sides have their labels.

Also, no one in this thread has been called any of those things.
