Listening to Obama speak makes me wish he was our leader. He's going on and on about environmentally friendly energies while our PM just spent 24 million on propaganda for the oil industry... oil that the US is definitely NOT going to buy.

I know it's just a politician speaking but I would definitely vote for him.

Every time I see a cute girl, a few seconds or minutes later I find out she has a boyfriend. I feel like every girl around my age that is reasonably attractive is in a relationship, the only exception being the ones in my group of friends. Not that it matters, I wouldn't approach these girls anyway. It just feels like I'm the only single person out there.

Maybe I should move to Japan, where something like 60% of young adults are single.
There are single women out there, but it's hard to know who they are until you talk to them, which is a problem, I know. ::p:

Yeah but in Canada he wouldn't have to deal with all the crazies. I get that he's a lame duck but our PM is taking what used to be an awesome place and turning it into a dirty, backwards international embarrassment. It's kind of ironic that you have a president that wants to make America more like Canada when it was good and we have a PM who wants to make Canada more like America at its worst.

Yessir. Nothin' like a good ol' fashioned knife-pullin', bed-frame-chuckin', throat-stompin' dream to resurrect your belief in brotherly love.

I don't know why but I feel so tired today. Tired and emotionally fried. I feel like at any moment I'm going to crack and start bawling.

I would like a warm blanket, a good movie, a furry cat, and some hot chocolate spiked with peppermint Schnapps. A friend wouldn't be bad, either. *le sigh*

What I was talking about is that every time I see a girl that reaches my physical standards, seconds or minutes later I get visual confirmation that they're in a relationship.

When it was on I was like, "YEAH!!! YEAH!!!" (not to everything, but a lot)... but then I remembered how he bailed out the uber-rich who were actively giving themselves raises and flying in private jets while their companies were going under.

Master con-artist.

Yes he sure is! He is playing the card of a "democrat" when he is working really for the elite and the war mongering republicans. TBH it is really a big BS game and both political parties are the same. We were under the illusion we were getting something different with him, being black even, but he is the same as all of them. This country is a sad place and I will no longer vote for any of those fools. Taking part in those elections we have is really a huge waste of gas to drive to the polls. I feel so cheated I voted for him the first time, but not the second...didn't vote at all.

I think the bailouts were necessary.

The problem is that since the late 70s/early 80s, free market policies have been concentrating all the wealth in the hands of a few people, which means that you can't just let them go bankrupt because the entire economy would collapse.

The way I understood it, when Obama came into power, he could have either bailed them out and let what happened happen, or faced a crash so severe it would have completely ruined the States and by extension a major part of the global economy for about a decade.

Some people thought that they should have just let this happen and that it wouldn't have been that bad, but personally I think they made the right call... yes, some slimeballs got rich and behaved reprehensibly, but if there had been a serious depression it could have been very very bad... like people killing each other for food bad.

What I took from the address was that he was going to ignore the Republicans, stop trying to make everyone happy, and finally be a real leader. Even if some people aren't feeling it, the economy has bounced back and is more or less stable, so it's a perfect time to try to break the grip that the rich have on it.

I don't support everything Obama has done, but the health care act seemed to be a shot at wealth redistribution and it seems to me that he has solid intentions and is still sticking with his original plan. I think that in the coming years we're going to see him try to make up for all of that time he had to spend trying to put band-aids on the 30 year economic mess, just to prevent it from falling apart.

I feel the same way today. I feel unable to muster the energy to do anything, and have found myself staring into space a lot today.

I still want to go to Canada, no matter what Stephen Harper's doing. You should come see our Prime Minister in action...or inaction, if you like.

Hey, ladies, sorry to hear you're having rough days. Many hugs to you both.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:crying:

I had an awful cold over winter break and I vowed I would be extra vigilant about my cold-avoiding strategies. Well, I've washed my hands much more frequently now, avoided touching my eyes and all of that (most of the time... it can be such an unconscious thing). And now my throat is sore in that... pre-cold way. It's just a certain way and you just know you're getting a cold. I knew it. I knew it! I always get millions of colds every year. It must be stress. Why oh why

I took a vitamin c supplement out of desperation but I doubt those things do anything.

It's OK to mess up every now and then, right? Trying to rationalize and talk myself out of shame. I should not have taken on a project that I don't have time to work on. :l Well, I lost the favor of someone. Oh well.

A few moments ago, a Carolina wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus) was perched on a branch outside my window, singing his little heart out.

It's the dead of winter, snow's on the ground, and it's bitterly cold. Does he not have sense enough to be miserable? What does he know that I don't?

On my way home today, next to the house I live in was the police, preventing cars to move on further on the road. Why? Another bomb. They find a bomb every couple of months in this city, and in whole Germany one much more often. They are remains from WW2, then have to be disarmed, transported away or be detonated in a hopefully controlled way.

The bomb they found today weights about 250kg, so it's not that huge, but huge enough to pose a threat to people and property.

The one they found today will be a quite difficult case. The bombs are often so rusted shut that they can't be disarmed. And this one can't be put under a controlled detonation either. So... A friend of mine lives only a few hundred metres away from that place.

It's weird to think that I passed the property under which the bomb was unearthed already half a hundred times or so. It could have detonated any moment then and killed me.

Here is a video that shows how the city I live in would look like if it wouldn't have been bombed to dust during WW2.

Die vom Krieg verschont gebliebene Stadt Köln - YouTube

Edit: there is a liveticker on the internet about the progress with the bomb. I wonder if they'll detonate it, then I'll probably hear it (but I guess that the windows of my flat will stay whole, sometimes the bombs are huge or the detonation doesn't work as expected, and then a lot of damage is done).

There are constantly sirens to be heard, with which the police tries to make sure that nobody gets into the danger zone.

Every couple of months they find a bomb in this city, even though the war is already over for like 70 years. It makes you wonder how many more bombs are sleeping in the soil under the city.

Sometimes people also die at construction sites, when a bomb is not noticed immediately but just detonates.

Edit: the detonation will take place sometime later it seems. The detonator is damaged and thus near unpredictable, and there is a huge building nearby that has to be evacuted.

I've seen these a couple of times in my yard (but not in the middle of winter). They are beautiful little melodic creatures.
