So my life has been very busy at the moment. Currently, the doctor has me taking 120mg twice daily. Once in the morning and once at night. I have found this less effective. Sweating on my back is much better and such however on my forehead is still bad. I am not sure if is a side effect of another medicine I am. I am currently thinking about what I what my next move to be with this medicine .......

LOL Alaska is a good option. I always imagined Antarctica b/c well, it's colder there. Keep us posted with the results. I will create a new page to discuss my condition, and the medication I'm taking

Hi All, quick update.

I started taking 60mg Tildiem modified release (diltiazem hydrochloride) yesterday. So this is day two. Yesterday I had a few issues, I felt anxious/fidgety but got a good nights sleep and today has been fine so far. Dosage has been 2 x around 8 am with 1 x 6 hours later and a further 1 x 6 hours later. Essentially I will be putting 240mg of slow release into my system per 24 hours. Though I know more can be administered I will not be willing to much beyond this for worries over lowered blood pressure and heart problems.

Yesterday I felt no different, today I took a walk around the block (about 1 mile up and down hills) at a good pace and although I was sweating I feel there was a decent reduction. I expect tomorrow to be the first day I have the stuff fully going through me and have a dreaded trip across London on the tube planned so that will give me as good an indication as anything! As this med can take a few weeks to fully kick in and side effects are so far okay I will continue for the time-being in the hop that this will be more effective than glyco.

My issue with glyco are the side effects as I need around 6mg per day to stay dry but if I get some effect out of diltiazem I may begin the process of combining lesser amounts of the two for maximum effect... we all know there is no miracle cure and I am a true believer in stacking.

If others are trying this PLEASE keep us posted on what and how it is or is not working.

Many thnaks

Ya the London tube is a disaster. In the summer time, I hate taking it.

I'd be interested to know how effective it is up against glyco (Robinul). My gut tells me it is not very effective, simply b/c the test was conducted in 1987, and over 30 years later no doctor even mentions it. But I really hope I'm wrong.

Going in for Botox tomorrow, and meeting with my doctor next week about this diltiazem

Why do people hate robinul (anticholinergics)? I don't mind them, I just wish they were more effective.

any new updates??? im dying to see if this works. i have extreme all over HH. its ruining my life. ive tried EVERYTHING (besides surgery and i never will do that.) i am currently on beta blockers (propranolol) 60 mg a day in case anyone is interested. i was very hopeful for these because from what i read it just sounded like it would work after reading articles about what it does. I have been taking the 60 mg a day for 8 days now with unfortunately no significant change. my doctor said give it two weeks though...so i will. Believe it or not im still somewhat hopeful for it. i will post my results every now and then. and if it doesnt work by 2 weeks then i will most likely try diltiazem. i was gonna try a anticholergenic again even though none of them worked when i tried them previously. but i wanna try again now that i eat healthy (idk if that will change anything or not). but i would like to hear from the people who have been taking the Diltiazem????

Sorry for late reply. I have had many things going on in my life beyond my control. I am still taking 120mg extended release twice daily. My hands and feet have continued to stay dry and my forehead sweat is now only a light perspiration. If the temp is below 90f then most certainly this is no sweat. The only side effect i am experiencing is constipation and bloating.

Take 240mg total a day. Give it a week but you should start to voice a difference in for days. Are you taking extended release? I would switch to 120 er and take one in the am and one in the pm.

thanks cm for your reply, i am sorry if i appear impatient...honestly my entire life revolves around this one thing as many HH sufferers im sure can relate to (yourself possibly included), i know u stated u still get the light perspiration on ur forehead at temps of 90+ but would u consider your perspiration in this heat normal in comparison to others without HH? or still slightly excessive but much better than it was?

-Thanks a lot for your time and patience

Is this Diltiazem you're talking about?

With this medicine it is now normal or at worse slightly more. The untrained eye would not notice it and it is far better than what it was. In short, I would just try this medicine. You have little to lose. With insurance it might be $10 a most for a month's supply.

Is this Diltiazem you're talking about?
Yes.

Hey cm123, can I ask how much you were sweating before such that it is now "normal or slightly worse"?

I, for example, had everywhere hypherhidrosis (not the technical term, I know). I take a ton of anticholinergic medication and it controls it. So as long as I am indoors I don't sweat. If I am in the sun, or walking up a hill, I start to sweat a little.

Also did you switch medication (ie. from Avert to this), or did you just put up with your sweating?

Thanks for the info, this is actually really exciting for me as I want to get off of anticholinergic meds. I wouldn't mind the side effects if it was a little more effective at controlling sweating.

i have a doctor appointment for this friday to ask to be put on Diltiazem. But i would like to know, CM, i see that your doing multiple things for your sweating besides the diltiazem, such as the herbal tea and ion machine thing....is it really fair to give much credit to diltiazem alone? or is it all these things combined?

-thanks
